OS X Mountain Lion: The 9 Coolest New Features Of Apple's Newly Announced Mac Software

Apple on Thursday surprised the tech world by unveiling the developer-only preview of what will soon be its newest operating system for Mac computers, OS X Mountain Lion. OS X Mountain Lion comes just seven months after the release of OS X Lion, an operating system which sought to unify many of the best features of iOS (Apple's operating system for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) with the best features of OS X (its operating system for the Mac). That unification continues with OS X Mountain Lion, which is being touted as an incremental upgrade to last year's major OS release. Indeed, the  Wall Street Journal 's Jessica Vascellaro, who got an in-person preview of the operating system from Apple CEO Tim Cook,  titled her report  on OS X Mountain Lion "Apple to Bring iPhone, iPad Features to Mac." What's more, Apple's  official preview page  for Mountain Lion's features reads "Inspired by iPad. Re-imagined for Mac." So, what new featu...

Apple Is Planning Big For The iPad 3

The folks over at  9to5mac  have published a report in which they inform about a post over on ilab.cc which has images of iPad 3’s leaked components such as LCD panel, dock connector and a back plate. The  post  says that the back panel will be comparatively thicker almost 1mm, which will accommodate new components and will come with a battery that is bigger in size to display more pixels and a dual LED backlitsystem. Other than these features, back panel will be the same as that of the iPad2. If we talk about 2,048-by-1, 536-pixel resolution display allegedly manufactured by Sharp, it complements it perfectly. It was also mentioned that the back panel fits the iPad3 perfectly because the screw holes on the back plate are in the right places making that perfect fit possible. Due to this, the author is so sure that the Retina Display LCD panel of Sharp is designed for the leaked iPad 3 chassis, and another indication is the way the cable of LCD’s panel folds and ...

Top 5 apps “Sherlocked” by iOS 5

Apple’s iOS 5 built-in a lot of new, basic functionality previously filled by 3rd party App Store apps, which effectively “Sherlocked” those apps, rendering them redundant in a post-iOS 5 world. Or did it? There’s a world of difference between basic functionality that serves the needs of only the most casual user, and advanced functionality with enough control and features to satisfy a hardcore pro. What Apple did with iOS 5, as with previous generations of iOS, is take away the entry-level business of several prominent 3rd party apps, but still left them with the premium, higher order market. While it’s always dangerous creating an enterprise based on glaring functionality holes Apple will almost certainly fill at some point in the future, there’s just as much opportunity building a great product that Apple’s entry into the space can benefit. Here are a 5 apps (and a couple things more) I think could make that case. Instapaper Marco Arment’s excellent read-it-later client...

Wireless Charging for iPhone 5 and iPad 3 ?

In less than three weeks, the  iPhone  has caught up with the  Palm Pre  in the one area where the Pre held an undisputed lead:  wireless charging . The ability to charge without wires is an idea that's been teasing us for a long time, with Palm the first company (I am aware of) to take it mainstream. The feature will soon be available for iPhone users, too. The iPhone solution, from  WildCharge , requires placing the iPhone or iPod touch into a gel skin inductor that looks pretty much like any other form-fitting other case. It includes a small connector that plugs into the iPhone. Once installed, the user places the iPhone onto any WildCharge charger pad and the phone starts charging. The iPhone charging skin and charger pad combination costs $80, while the Pre wireless charger is a $70 add-on from Palm. One important difference: The WildCharge pad and skin are part of a system that works with other devices, such as the BlackBerry Curve and Pearl as...
