Apple iPad 3 Releasing in March 2012

You've heard all the  rumors , and now Apple has finally confirmed the details of its next iPad launch event. It will take place on Wednesday, March 7th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. The company is keeping things suitably vague beyond that, of course, promising only that it has "something you really have to see. And touch." You can be sure we'll be there live to find out exactly what that might be.

iPad 3 release date, iOS 5.1 GM seed, new focus, new features

What a week.  iPad 3  was certainly the big story, with rumors following their usual, crazy, pre-relase pattern.  iOS 5.1  is along for the ride. On the hardware side, we heard the traditional 30-pin dock connector may be going micro, and as you may have noticed, we’ve been making some changes around the site. Here’s the deal on release dates, software drops, and assorted mischief… iPad 3 release date With the  iPad 3 event expected for March 7 , that raises the question of when Apple’s next tablet will actually ship. A new but interesting source recently told us March 30 was the date with an Apple Retail meeting to take place right before hand, on March 28. That’s 23 days between announcement and release. And… that seems like a long time. Apple announced the first iPad on January 27, 2010, opened pre-orders in the U.S. on March 12, and released the device on Friday, April 30. But that was a brand new product category, and while not as big as the Ja...

Updating interfaces for iPad 3: Why your favorite app might take a while to go Retina

Depending on how an app was designed and developed, updating for an iPad 3 Retina display could take days or weeks Flash forward — After lining up for hours, or sitting at home all day waiting for a courier to arrive, you finally have your hands on an  iPad 3  with its amazing Retina display. A display with over 3.1 million pixels. All of them difficult to distinguish, because they’re so damn tiny. Text is crisp. Photos look are amazing. This thing is gorgeous. You launch your favourite app and notice things aren’t as amazing as they were a few seconds ago. The app in question doesn’t contain Retina image assets — the pictures that make up the user interface elements are at the iPad 2′s screen resolution, so things look as blocky as they did on your previous iPad. What’s going on? Custom UI vs standard UI A regular graphic (1x) will simply be rendered with four pixels per point on a Retina display, unless proper Retina (2x) resources are in place to take advantage ...

Adding to the mountain of  iPad 3  rumors is word that shipments of Apple’s next generation tablet will be leaving Foxconn factories in China on February 26 for arrival in the U.S. on March 9. Apple iPad 3 in 8 inch version?

The Wall Street Journal has been slowly leaking details about the iPad 3 attributed to anonymous sources, so, it could very well be all conjecture. The latest round of rumors today finds the device arriving in an 8-inch iteration, 1.7 inches smaller than the iPad 2’s screen. Yet, it’s slated to ship with a 1024x768 display, manufactured by AU Optronics and LG Display. This would all go against Steve Jobs’ disdain for downsizing the iPad’s screen, but then again, he’s dead. The other big rumor being bandied about: the iPad 3 arriving on both AT&T and Verizon and running on their 4G LTE networks. We shall see.
