So the latest version of Redsn0w is out now! TheiPhone Dev Team has released the first running jailbreak foriOS 5 beta 1, in the face of Redsn0w 0.9.8. Not to forget this is a tethered jailbreak, which means that every time you reboot your iDevice, you’ll have to connect it to your desktop and operate it in the jailbroken mode.
Presently the iOS 5 beta is only available for registered iOS developer. In case you get a chance to install iOS 5 and want to jailbreak it, here is the jailbreak guide to walk you through the process.
In this tutorial, we’ll teach you how to jailbreak iPhone 4 (both GSM and CDMA versions), iPhone 3GS and iPad (and iPod Touch 3G / 4G as a bonus), running iOS 5 beta 1 as the firmware. If you’re depending on an ultrasn0w unlock, don’t use Redsn0w.
Before you follow our guide, you are asked to back up your data on iTunes, just for being on the safer side. Backing up will save your settings and so, if you go on to restore your phone, the process will be much smoother.
Follow the step-by-step guide below.
Step 1
Get Redsn0w 0.9.8 for Mac from here. It is assumed that you have iOS 5 beta 1 running on your iDevice.
Step 2
Launch Redsn0w on your Mac. Go for the Browse option and select iOS 5 beta 1 firmware file that is compatible with your iDevice. Once your IPSW has been identified, proceed to next step.
Step 3
Make sure the “Install Cydia” option is checked. Then, click the Next button to continue.
Step 4
Connect your iDevice to your Mac via USB and switch it off.
Step 5
Now just follow the on-screen instruction to put your device into DFU mode. To boot your iDevice into DFU mode, hold ONLY the Power button for at least 3 seconds and then hold on to the Home button SIMULTANEOUSLY (at the same time) for the next 7 seconds. Then let go of the Power button while holding the Home button for the next 10 seconds. If you follow the instruction correctly, Redsn0w automatically detects your device in DFU mode. Otherwise, just go back and redo the procedures again.
Step 6
Now that your iDevice is in DFU mode, the rest works like clockwork. After reboot, you’ll find your iDevice jailbroken on iOS 5 beta 1 with cydia installed.
That’s it. Have fun!
You can see the Cydia icon but if you try launching Cydia or Safari at this moment you’ll notice it crashes. This is because you have to boot tethered now using Redsn0w and also every other time when the iPhone turns off or reboots. Select boot tethered right now option in Redsn0w and once again place iPhone in DFU mode as specified and then Cydia and safari will work fine.
