Apple iPad 3 expected on 7 March following press event

Apple has announced an event on 7 March at which the company is expected to launch its latest iPad tablet. Invitations sent to journalists read: "We have something you really have to see. And touch." While not officially confirming the product's launch, the message was accompanied by an image showing what looked to be an iPad touchscreen. The iPad range, which first launched in 2010, has sold over 50 million units worldwide. It is not yet known when the new device will be available for sale. Last year, sales of the iPad 2 began in the US nine days after the launch announcement - which also took place in March. Apple's first two versions of the iPad transformed the market for tablet computers and made it one of the fastest-growing sectors of the computer industry. Patent woes However, recently Apple's dominant position in the tablet market has been challenged by a string of tablets powered by Google's Android operating system. Later this year...

Galaxy Tab root (and others) just a few clicks away with z4root root

So you have your new shiny  Galaxy Tab , and you want to  root it .  I like the way you think.  The good news is that the days of SDK's, cryptic shell commands, and crazy Windows USB drivers are over.  An app from the Market (z4root -- links after the break) will root your Tab, as well as other  Galaxy S  phones and other NAND unlocked devices with just a button press. Download and install Z4Root from the Market Enable USB debugging ( menu>settings>applications>development ) Run the app, and press the "root" button Your Tab will restart, and you're rooted.  Unrooting is just as easy, just run z4root and "unroot."  Of course a lot of the goodies available for other devices just haven't been made for the Tab just yet, but they're coming.  Hit the jump for download links and a list of other phones this will work on.  [ XDA Developers  via  Pocketables ] Other devices that z4root will root: S...

HTC EVO 4G HDMI dock review

HTC HDMI Video Dock Buy Now $36.95 As one of the first Android phones with a dedicated HDMI-out port, the  HTC EVO 4G  is the perfect candidate for a multimedia dock.  The  official HTC HDMI dock  is that perfect multimedia dock.  It's stylish, simple, and works great -- which is what most of us look for in our electronic accessories.   Inside the box is everything you need to get going.  The dock, a 72-inch (that's six feet) HDMI cable, and a quick and easy set of directions and you'll soon be watching video on your television or monitor.  And the dock's small size makes it perfect for carrying along with you to share video and pictures from your EVO on any television. Just plug one end of the cable into the dock, the other into the TV, and go.  There's even a microUSB port on the dock so you can charge while watching.  The dock itself is weighty, and has four rubber feet to keep it from sliding around while using it....

Seidio ACTIVE for HTC EVO 3D

With our very own  Mobile Nations Fitness Month  almost at a close, we'd be remiss if we didn't bring you some of the hottest accessories made for the walking, jogging, calorie-burning, Android-loving health junkie. For those of you sporting an HTC EVO 3D, you'll definitely want to take a look at the  Seidio ACTIVE Case for the HTC EVO 3D . Combining the rubberized, gripping skin we've all come to know and love with a six-prong, hard plastic skeleton, the Seidio ACTIVE gives your phone the loving embrace it needs to stay safe without adding too much bulk. Seidio ACTIVE Case Buy Now $19.95 On the top bezel, you're looking at the typical uncovered 3.5mm headphone jack, but otherwise, everything is all nice and covered up. That makes sense, since your phone's first line of defense is an all-inclusive rubber skin, but be aware if you're going to be getting sweat, dirt, or dust anywhere, it's going to be in the headphone jack. Moving to the ...

Apple iPad 3 Releasing in March 2012

You've heard all the  rumors , and now Apple has finally confirmed the details of its next iPad launch event. It will take place on Wednesday, March 7th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. The company is keeping things suitably vague beyond that, of course, promising only that it has "something you really have to see. And touch." You can be sure we'll be there live to find out exactly what that might be.

Huawei Ascend G 300 Review

Huawei's all about the  D Quad  at this year's Mobile World Congress, but that's not everything in the manufacturer's arsenal. Having seen the first devices from its D (Diamond) and P (Platinum) series, we've been wondering how the third-tier G (Gold) handsets would turn out. Huawei's booth holds the answer to our lingering question in the form of the  Ascend G 300 , a predictably lower- to mid-range smartphone packing a 1GHz single-core CPU, 4-inch WVGA display, 5MP rear camera along with other modest specs. While it's clear that Huawei's major focus is on bumping up its specs and becoming a major player in relevance and performance, we've only seen that strategy reflected on its top two tiers. The G 300, in contrast, doesn't feel any different in build quality than its older budget-conscious cousins; it employs the company's signature gray / white (or gray / black) look on the back. The edges and sides of the device are slightly differ...

Microsoft to demo Windows 8 tablet interface in June?

At this point, the only thing keeping Microsoft in the tablet conversation are rumors of its  Windows 8  or Windows Next , and lo and behold we've got another one to add to the pile. While we heard last week that Microsoft could release the beta of  Windows 8 for tablets at PDC in September , "sources at Microsoft" have now told  Business Insider , that the company is hoping to show a public "design demo" of the operating system's tablet UI as early as June. The timing  is  interesting -- and it actually lines up very well with  Computex , where the company does have a big presence -- but we're also intrigued by the part that says Microsoft's taking "a more Apple-like approach to interface design" and that it will use  Metro UI pieces. That's obviously similar to what Microsoft  showed us at last year's Computex  (picture of that above) -- except it was using Windows Embedded Compact 7 underneath. The article also mentions that...
