The Samsung Star 3 is a feature phone from Samsung. With the smartphone market on constant rise, it has become really hard for basic feature phones to survive. With the same price, you could get a full smartphone based on Android operating system, which makes it nearly impossible for a feature phone to fight for a place in the market. However, there are still a lot of people out there who are not quite yet comfortable with the set of features a smartphone brings, that is why this phone may actually have a market. I got my hands on the set and would like to share my experiences with you through the review.
The Samsung Star 3 is a successor to last year’s Samsung Star II, but when compared to its predecessor, it actually lacks in some places. I compared both of the devices side by side and found out that this one comes with an inferior screen. The phone’s main market is the budget market, so we are going to check if it is even worth getting your hands on the set of features it brings with the current price range.
Design wise, the Samsung Star 3 is built out of sheer black plastic and faux chrome around the sides. It comes available in two different colors, a shiny white and black counterparts, the one I got for this review is all black. Earlier I said that it comes with an inferior screen to the Star II. The small 3 inches screen only supports a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, which is lower than the predecessor’s screen. The screen resolution is justified because no one will be using HD content on it anyway. However, the viewing angles are pretty low and you should be aware that using it in the sun is nearly impossible.
The phone feature set comes complete with the TouchWiz UI from Samsung, often seen in most of the company’s smartphones. There are some widgets you can set on the home screen and can even create shortcuts. Social networking apps are preinstalled should you wish to access them via phone. The basic features offered by the phone are pretty okay for this kind of phone and the price is justified too.
