HTC released the HTC Flyer as its single-core flagship tablet and the HTC Jetstream as its dual-core flagship. What about its quad-core flagship? A yet-unnamed HTC tablet bearing a quad-core processor is reportedly in the pipeline and scheduled for release at the Media World Congress (MWC) 2012 next year.
Taiwanese news site Commercial Times reports that HTC is planning to release a quad-core tablet, alongside two new Android smartphones, before Microsoft releases its Windows 8 operating system by 3Q 2012.
The HTC tablet will reportedly carry an NVIDIA chipset, presumably Tegra 3, which is NVIDIA’s quad-core processor. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich can also be expected onboard.
Along with two other Android-powered smartphones (codenamed Ville and Edge), this quad-core tablet will be made public at the MWC 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. Rumors say that the HTC Edge will use a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset, while the Ville will come with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chipset.
The new tablet’s quad-core processor will put the focus on premium graphic performance, making it a multimedia center. It is at the same time made for low-power consumption at high performance.
HTC might also produce Window 8 powered devices, as the two companies have had a history together.
Critics observe that HTC is under a lot of pressure from competitors like ASUS, which has scheduled the release of its quad-core ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime into the market.
The days of quad-core smartphones and tablets are nearing. If you could choose, which manufacturer would you want to make your next quad-core phone/tablet and what features would you like to see on the device?
