Have you ever been browsing the Internet on your iPad and come across content that won’t play because it’s Flash based?
Apple’s refusal to allow flash on the iPhone and iPad can certainly be frustrating at times as Flash is such a popular platform to develop on.
A few weeks ago we wrote about Skyfire, which is a browser that renders Flash on iOS. But if you are looking for a workaround that doesn’t require you to use a new browser or jailbreak your device, iSwifter is your choice.
iSwifter
iSwifter is a cloud-based application currently available in Apple’s app store that allows you to decode and play flash on your iPad and iPhone. iSwifter is its own browser, much like Safari, but it is also a web portal with featured content. It has a game section and a web section.
Games & Web
The game section has content guaranteed to play quickly on iSwifter. The web section also has featured websites that are guaranteed to play as well but it allows you to go off and browse the entire Internet on your own. iSwifter works very well and is certainly the best solution available right now but there are some minor annoyances. Flash content is a little clunky in terms of how fast it loads because using I swifter is kind of like browsing through a proxy.
The cloud servers delivering the content have a little lag because of the required decoding. However there are benefits to using the cloud, because when the content has loaded you are not constrained by your device’s graphics processing capabilities as it is being handled by iSwifter’s servers. All in all iSwifter is a great app that I recommend you download if you want to use flash on your iPad. If you’d like to know more, check out their site or watch the video below.
